PAINTING ON DEWEY STREET
14. A REFLECTION
When all is said and done, and this project is turned in and we all move on, the poles will still stand, the colors will still be there, and people will keep walking by. This is not to say that the analytical aspect of this project was moot, but rather that I enjoyed this project so thoroughly because it was more than writing. Yes this project is beneficial in it’s own right, and I have learned a lot about myself and what ties the things that I do in my life, but the added purpose and benefit it has to others is what really excited/excites me about this whole project.
I am grateful for this opportunity to study my own thoughts and actions analytically, however, and will use what I have learned to guide my future careers and goals.
These will not be my last poles.
The final words of this project will not be my own, but rather the words of my neighbors, who through Nextdoor (a friend sent me a picture of the comments), have showed their support. In the end, their support might help in court, too.
“A delight to encounter. Thank you to whoever did this! Our own “Andy Goldsworthy” artist.”
“Lovely! This reminds me —— I’ve been enjoying the brightly painted utility poles all along Dewey. They’ve been popping up over the last several weeks. Does anyone know who’s responsible?”
“I love them and would like to know more!”
“We saw some college-aged people painting some of the poles a couple of weeks ago. Guessing they live on Dewey? They looked like they were having a great time. :)”
I would love to paint ours! We’ve been going on daily walks just so we can see the poles because they are so bright and happy.”
